ODENTON, MD– Ahead of their sixth season, the Maryland Black Bears announced their leader for the year. It will be none other than Dimitry Kebreau, a Maryland native and third-year Black Bear. Kebreau will be the seventh captain in Black Bears franchise history.
Kebreau had a breakout season last year with 25 goals and 41 points in 50 games, while also notching seven points in 10 playoff games. Kebreau has been a versatile player for the Black Bears, as he notched six shorthanded goals in 2022-23 and hold the single-season and career mark (7) for shorthanded tallies. Over his career with the Black Bears he has 32 goals and 59 points in 106 regular season games.
On top of the stats, Kebreau becomes the first Maryland native to captain the team. The Silver Spring native came up through the Team Maryland youth hockey ranks and also committed to University of Alaska-Anchorage last season.
“As a kid from Maryland having played on this team for 2 years, it’s a great honor to be named Captain for the upcoming season. I’ve learned a lot from the previous captains, and look forward to the journey ahead this year,” said Kebreau after the announcement of his captaincy.
“Dimitry has shown tremendous growth as a person, and hockey player since he started here. He has always been a fantastic teammate; been extremely coachable; works as hard or harder than anyone that puts on the Maryland Black Bear jersey and really represents our program and community well,” mentioned GM and head coach Clint Mylymok
Mylymok continued, “It means a lot to us to see him wear the captain’s “C”, especially as a Maryland native. We have a lot of leaders in that room this year, but it was unanimous when talking to everyone after last season that Dima was going to be our captain for 2023-24. We look forward to entering our 6th season with him leading the way.”
