ABOUT LAST WEEK: The Black Bears opened up their 2023-24 campaign with a split against the rival Tomahawks. Seven different Black Bears scored over the weekend, with Adam Schankula leading the way in the assist category with four over the weekend, while Colin Ronan and Jack Wieneke split time in the crease.

NEW KIDS IN TOWN: Of the seven different goal-scorers, three of them were draft picks from the 2023 NAHL Draft: Jeremi Tremblay, Tamas Toth, and Matthew Croxall; while two others in Keanu Krenn and Luke Janus were given tender contracts last season.
BACK TO BLAINE: The Black Bears head to their fifth NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota and have finished with no fewer than two wins in those appearances. Last year, the Black Bears went 3-1-0 in their Showcase, which set the tone for their historic season, which finished off in Blaine for the Robertson Cup Finals.
(SOMEWHAT) FAMILIAR FACES: This showcase will have the Black Bears play two teams they have faced in the Showcase before. Maryland took on the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in 2019-20 and the Odessa Jackalopes in 2021-22. The Black Bears will also face the Minnesota Wilderness and Shreveport Mudbugs in their other two games of the Showcase.
NEW DIVISIONAL LOOKS: The Showcase won’t be the only place where the Black Bears will see new teams playing against them. After the Showcase, the Black Bears will head to Rochester, New York to take on the newly minted Rochester Jr. Americans on the 22nd and 23rd.
