ABOUT LAST WEEK: The Black Bears headed up to Danbury for a couple of matinee match-ups and won both games by scores of 4-1 and 7-3. Many firsts happened with Owen Lepak’s first NAHL win, Evan Sofitkitis’ first NAHL goal, and Luke Amell’s first multi-goal game in juniors.
BLUE LINE BLITZ: Maryland got plenty of help from their blue line this weekend with three goals and five assists. On top of Amell’s two goals, Sofikitis added an assist to his goal, Keaton Lipsett notched two assists, with Trayce Johnson and Cal Huston providing helpers, as well.
CAPTAIN FIRST STAR: Black Bears captain Dimitry Kebreau took home First Star of the Week for the East Division. The third-year Black Bear notched six assists over the weekend, putting him up to 17 assists and 23 points in 17 games this year. Kebreau is the third Black Bear to garner weekly honors, with Adam Schankula and Kareem El-Bashir taking the weekly award earlier in the season.
HOME COOKING: Returning to The Den after a weekend away, the Black Bears are 5-1-0 at Piney Orchard this season with a +11 goal differential on home ice. All time at Piney, the Black Bears have a .552 winning percentage (72-57-14), which they’ll look to improve this month with three home weekends.
WELCOMING ROCHESTER: Maryland welcomes the Rochester Jr. Americans for the first time in team history. Facing off at the end of September, Maryland took three of four points with a win and shootout loss. Schankula led the way for the Black Bears with two goals and two assists in those two games.
